Christening |
7/4/01 - Right on time, OurDotCom was christened and launched at Salem Lake in
Winston-Salem, NC. Even with the light (2-4mph) winds, she sailed well and provided
much enjoyment to all who sailed in her today. Click on thumbs below for full
images.) Tough getting the boat off the trailer. |

Back to Salem Lake for some more "Shakedown". We rerigged the peak
halyard do that the line to the bottom of the mast breaks out on the starboard side of the
double block at the masthead - did the gaff halyard to the port side too: now both
run more freely without getting humg on the mast or other topside rigging. Light
winds with a few gusts to 5-6mph. Made some minor adjustments to the
trailer - still hard to get off & on. |

Salem Lake - nice 7-10mph winds, practiced trimming sails - especially the gaff -
amazing what a very small tweak can do there. |

Salem Lake - 10-15mph winds, very nice sailing conditions with pretty steady wind.
Had completed wiring of the rolling motor this morning so we tested it for the
first time, all went well. Had removed the front two feet of my keel guide from the
trailer and moved the keel roller back - this made loading and unloading easier but still
harder than it needs to be. |

Salem Lake - light winds. We received the telltails from Paul J at Ulta Sail and
installed them on both the jib and the main - they make quite a difference in letting me
know the state of the sail trim. Took Mary's sister Estelle and niece Vicki out for
awhile. |

Salem Lake - very light winds. Took Daughter-in-law out for awhile. By
about 5pm, no wind at all. Broke out the troller and went exploring on the upper end
of the lake. Pleasant afternoon but not much sailing. |
| 7/15 - 10/20/2001 |
Numerous trips to Salem Lake, Oak Hollow Lake and other local places.
Having too much fun sailing to maintain this log properly. |
| 10/20-27/2001 |
Ocracoke Island, NC. - We towed OurDotCom 300 miles to the Outer Banks. No
problems at all on the way, she tamely followed the Jeep and, other than checking in the
rear view mirror, I really wasn't aware of her being back there. We launched at the
Park Service boat ramp and sailed into Silver Lake Harbor. |
